Gallery founder Ian Cairl grew up immersed in the arts. His mother, a fine artist herself, practiced and communed with locally and internationally known artists . After studying art in France and New York City, she settled in Neshanic Station and became a member of the Printmaking Council of New Jersey, the Somerset Art Association, and the Hunterdon Art Center. His father, a true renaissance man and NYC beatnik, performed in off broadway musicals, managed theater companies, cut gemstones , played piano and worked in stained glass, among other various and eccentric hobbies and jobs.
Decades of work as a designer and craftsman has only bolstered Ian's commitment to supporting art and craft, and both emerging and experienced artists. His children have all embraced the arts and play various roles in the gallery and the family's other Somerville establishment, Three Hearts Home, which also features handcrafted work by independent designers and makers across the US and fair trade artisans around the globe.
